Overcoming Self-Sabotage

Self-sabotage, like negative thoughts, can be a difficult pattern to change.

Start by becoming AWARE of the habitual patterns that are no longer serving you. Some common ones are: procrastination, overeating, zoning out in front of the TV, or scrolling aimlessly on Social Media, to name a few.

Rev. Richard Rogers once said to me that, “People only change in the face of enough pain or enough love!” Sometimes the emotional pain we feel is the first sign that we are stuck in a self-sabotaging pattern

Another sign is that you keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Some people call this the definition of INSANITY. It is also true of SELF-SABOTAGE; we keep doing the same thing over and over and then we are upset that our life isn’t different.

What conversations are you having with yourself? Listen in. You might be surprised what you hear.

I am not good at technology.”

I can’t stop overeating.”

I can lose weight but I never keep it off.”

There are no good available men out there.”

In order to get a different result you have to do things differently. I believe that the current reality we find ourselves in is a direct result of our thinking. So in order to change your reality, you have to change your thinking.

The first step is awareness and identifying your self-sabotaging behaviors.

The thoughts we think influence the words we speak to others and ourselves. Start listening to your words, write down the words and phrases that you want to change.

Although you can do much of the investigation into your self-sabotage, most find it better to have another person help them.

You are not able to see what you don’t see. Just like, you are not able to give yourself a ‘good haircut”!

A good accountability partner, mindset mentor, or coach can help you discover what is hidden inside, even from you.
